Tegan Brace is a visual artist living and making in Chicago.
On any given day, she is working towards being everywhere all at once.
Tegan Brace's conceptual concerns are based in the value of objects and narratives which assume popular identities of empathy, sentimentality, dismiss-ability and weakness. These value systems are navigated through experimentation with materials and process along with the continuous development of her personal cosmology. Tegan's practice relies on mining social cues, cliches, awkward interactions and spontaneous gatherings. Her interests lie in building social frameworks where she employs the diaristic and observational aspects of her practice. This research is translated into the fictionalized spaces where her objects of empathy exist and transcend the wholly personal in order to connect with a greater public. She is interested in challenging the space and scale of where her objects are located related to the cadence and tone of an installation and its audience.
